Why do I need my own OpenAI API key?

Preppy runs entirely on your device and talks to OpenAI directly, with no server in the middle. That keeps your interview answers out of our hands and means there is no subscription — you pay OpenAI only for what you actually use, which for typical practice is a very small amount. You can create a key at platform.openai.com/api-keys.

My key was rejected.

Check that you pasted the whole key with no trailing spaces, that the key has not been revoked, and that the OpenAI account it belongs to has billing set up — a brand new account with no payment method or credit will fail validation even though the key itself is valid. You can re-enter your key at any time in Settings.

I hit a quota or rate limit.

That message comes from OpenAI, not from Preppy. Check your usage and limits in the OpenAI dashboard. Waiting a short while and retrying usually resolves rate limits.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Clear history deletes your saved interviews, answers and scorecards. Uninstalling the app removes everything, including your profile and your stored API key. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

Does Preppy work offline?

No. Generating questions and grading answers both require a connection to OpenAI.
